In this multi day masterclass, you will join artist Hilary Green to design and sculpt and glaze your dream vessel from start to finish. Suitable for intermediate to advanced students. The art of hand building ceramic vessels is ancient. They have the potential to hold and express character, stories or emotion. This is a course for you to explore techniques and understand new ways of finding inspiration and expand your own style. Consider form and meaning in your design as well as allowing room for discovery along the way! Hilary will demonstrate sculpting techniques such as coiling, layering, piece building, sculpting surface decoration, sculptural handles and invented mark making techniques. Her emphasis will be on encouraging you to learn techniques but to find your own style and expression with clay, even breaking the 'rules' to invent your own approach. It really is in the process that meaning is made. Building larger forms involves understanding balance, movement, internal structure and weight but can be so fun to exlore and play in order to find your own unique style. Schedule: Sunday April 28 ( 10 am - 1:30pm) Sculpting 10am - Morning Tea and Introduction 10:15am - Inspiration, design considerations and demonstration 1 10:45am - Begin designing and sculpting with Hilary Q and A 12pm - Demonstration 2 12 -1:30 continue sculpting Wednesday May 1 (6:30 pm - 8:30pm) Optional Time to finish sculpture. Sunday May 12 (10:30am - 1pm) Glazing 10:30 - Morning tea and glazing demo Hilary will demonstrate pouring, brush on techniques and explain glaze colourants and considerations for different effects. You will be able to view test tiles and make some choices for your final work. Q and A 11 - 1 - Glazing and application techniques This is a smaller class so that Hilary will be able to give you full support throughout and help you problem solve any issues. Hilary likes to be flexible to your pace so if you need more time you are able to join her in the studio for extra time if needed. What is included: -Morning tea - A choice of two different clays (5kg) to use which may inspire different sculptural effects. - Tools, glazes and firing - Optional extra studio time to finish. This will be a wonderful course creating sculptural beauty side by side! Your dream vessel will be ready to collect a week after the final session.
